After parties begin

Results have been in for a while and party supporters are still partying it up outside the O&B. Several victory cigars were handed out and promptly lit. The aroma of beer fills the cool evening air.

Ryan Moseley's girlfriend, Ashley Hablitzel, cried upon hearing the results.

"I'm blown away," she said, wiping away her running mascara.

After speaking with her, I saw Sen. Heshan "Grasshopper" Illangkoon, who had showed up after results had been read. When I congratulated him, he picked me up and swung me around before I could protest. It was awkward because I'm afraid of heights.

Another election season, come and gone

The fervor seems to have died down, and many people are trickling towards the parking garage. A final round of "Go Gators" erupts.

Your fearless opinions editor, over and out.

By a wide margin

Brian Aungst just told me that Gator won about a 70 percent of the executive vote, and Pants received about 30 percent.

"I only wish there had been more voter turnout, of course," he said.

Victory speeches by Vice President-elect Vanessa Goodwin and President-elect Ryan Moseley were short and sweet.

Hugs all around from blue-shirted smilers. Two Pants Poles still hang in there.

Check tomorrow's Alligator for more details.

GATOR SWEEPS

Gator won all three executive positions.

A cheer of "Moseley" erupts.

Senate seats

Pants wins only 1 senate seat overall. One graduate seat. Victory crowd pushups begin.

Referendums

Total Votes: 7,692

  • Constitutional ammendment passes with 65 percent
  • Renewable energy passes with 78 percent
  • Homeless shelter fails with 35 percent

World record

I just spoke with Supervisor of Elections Brian Aungst, who said the results were counted in "record-breaking time."

Green shirts, violet shirts...

It's Brendan Moore, president of Gators for a Sustainable Campus! Now we've seen representatives of all three ballot referendums. Will they pass? Results momentarily...

From under a patio umbrella

I've moved outside for a different perspective -- the majority of Pants is out here. A cool breeze rustles seven Pants Poles.

The results will be in any minute now.

Any minute

The votes have been counted for quite some time, and the winners will be announced right at midnight, Hilary reported.

Counting down...

Charles Roop / Alligator

Both parties flock to the Orange & Brew for refreshments with just minutes left until the results are announced.

What's Gainesville without the homeless?

The UF Homeless Coalition has arrived with their cardboard signs in hand. The four supporters are standing on the stage holding their signs side-to-side above their heads with stoic faces.

"Get a job," someone in the crowd yelled.

In other news, former Senate President Mike Patrone offered to buy me a beer when I turn 21 next year.

It goes both ways

Will Foster, who's taken some hits for handing out "I Voted" stickers, is present with his sign -- and wearing a Gator Party shirt.

Bruce Haupt is in the house.

This just in...

Hilary Lehman, an Alligator copy editor who was in the vote-counting room, just reported that the voter turnout for the elections was a meager 7,692, which barely edged out the Fall's count of 7,187 for a non-presidential race.

Another update

Gator Party members have overrun the Orange & Brew, giving each other congratulatory hugs and sipping their Heinekens. Ahh, the smell of Hollister cologne and overblown confidence.

Pants members are outnumbered about 30 to 1 here.

The bees have finally approached the bonnet

We have received word on Pants: The supporters are at Farah's On the Avenue. Presidential candidate Bruce Haupt said, "We are preparing for our eventual victory tonight."

Gator presidential candidate Ryan Moseley has entered the building. E.J. Walicki, candidate for treasurer, is wearing orange shorts, which perfectly match the Gator Party logo on his shirt.

Update from a camera man

This is your friendly, neighborhood photographer giving a quick update. The crowd here at the Orange & Brew is slowly growing.

So, the only thing I have witnessed lately is two guys in the violet "Vote Yes" T-shirts chasing each other through the O&B. Why? I have no clue.

Now, they are playing music from the Blue Man Group. Fresh.

Reports from The Swamp Restaurant

THE SWAMP RESTAURANT -- Alligator staff writer Alex Tiegen called from The Swamp Restaurant to report that there are about 40 Gator supporters "crowding the bar" and drinking. He said he spotted Student Body Vice President Arturo Armand and Senate President Josh Weiss among the crowd of blue shirts.

Meanwhile, at the O&B another Gator supporter has entered and left. Another one bites the dust.

Nothing gets a party started like an STI

Spinal Tech just tested the microphones by repeating, "Syphilis, syphilis."

Does it get any better than that?

Faces behind the blog

So, since there is absolutely nothing going on here to photograph yet, we decided to give you a little taste of the faces behind the blog. All except me, of course, because I'm taking the photo.

The bees are NOT approaching the bonnet

Two random SG officials and/or party supporters have crossed the threshold of the O&B within the past half hour. After wandering around with quizzical looks, they left.

Thus far, the Alligator still rules supreme in the O&B.

I also spoke to former university editor Lyndsey Lewis, who is following our reports from Bradenton. She said if she left now, she could be here by the time Gator lights their celebratory cigars.

Multicultural affairs reporter Alex Tiegen has returned from his venture to the second, third and fourth floors of the Reitz Union.

"I wanted to call you and say, 'The bees are approaching the bonnet,' but no one is on the other floors, either," Tiegen said. Concerned that SG may have moved the event to The Swamp Restaurant, he has left to report on the goings-on at the famous SG hot spot.

Ooh la la, someone with one of Pride Student Union's violet "Vote Yes" T-shirts has arrived. Perhaps the masses are on their way.

"I Voted" that "about" should not be capitalized

The alcohol cabinet here is stocked full, and the "no alcohol behind this point" sign is out and ready to keep people from leaving the patio.

Roughly the number of people who voted in the elections are here: about 13, including the nine Alligator staff members assembled.

P.S. We just debated whether to capitalize "about" following the colon in the second sentence. Copy desk?

Where ya at?

Damn. There are more people in Taco Bell than the Orange & Brew.

But the speakers and stage are set up. The masses can't be too far behind.

Birthday take two!

Hey, guys. It's Luanne Dietz, and I'm one of the photo editors. All I have to say is it's my birthday, too.

Stay tuned for some fun photos depicting the excitement of the next few hours.

I, along with two of our photographers, Nicole Safker and Charles Roop, will be documenting the night in photos. Sit back and enjoy.

SO EXCITED

What up? This is Jessie DaSilva, administration reporter and "resident SG expert."

So, it's my birthday and I consider live blogging to be the Alligator's present to me. Honestly, you have no idea how excited I am. Only about two hours until they announce the election results.

Get pumped.

You know things are exciting when...

the only people here so far are Alligator employees.

It's almost 9 p.m. The excitement is about the begin.

I, your fearless opinions editor, have my "I Voted" sticker firmly in place. The American Classic Movies channel is playing "Ladder 49" on the big screen. The sweet aroma of caffeine lingers.

The Orange & Brew tingles with anticipation.
